Scavengers from Planet X lore

Carina sector

From Earth, the Carina sector lies behind Epsilon Carinae in the constellation Carina. The sector was discovered by the great space explorer Alvin T. Russell in the Earth Year 2477. Russell found six clusters containing 35 star systems. But he could explore only two of them. The chosen ones were named Hope and Pax.

Hope's exploration was a bit disappointing. The only planet with a suitable atmosphere was a sandy desert. It was not a good place for a human settlement. He also found a strange bluish rocky dwarf planet that could be interesting for a mining settlement. The planets were named as Russell Catalog 4381-Hope-b and Russell Catalog 4382-Hope-d. Their current names are New Berlin and New Tokyo.

At Pax, Russell made one of the most important discoveries of his life. The planet Greenhaven, a lavish green paradise perfect for human life.

The Founders Expedition

Back on Earth, Russell spent the next fifteen years trying to convince the Earth authorities to establish a human settlement at Greenhaven. Frustrated, old and tired, he retired to a secluded place and disappeared from public life.

In the year 2497, a group of private investors led by an eccentric billionaire took an interest in the Greenhaven settlement project. They were looking for a place to establish a new home far from Earth and the suffocating laws and regulations of the United Government. Greenhaven seemed like the perfect place. They contacted Russell and convinced him to lead the expedition.

In 2499 the Founders Expedition was launched. A hundred ships carrying half a million souls led by a legendary old explorer and a mad businessman. And then the silence. In the next fifty years no one heard anything about the expedition.

The Second Wave

The Second Wave, also known as the Corporations Race, was led by some of the most prominent mining corporations in the Solar System: Ironhammer, Goldminers, Titanium, and Uranium. But the most important company on the expedition was Karoshi Corp, the largest industrial conglomerate of the human universe.

In the year 2547 the second wave reached Greenhaven and they found almost nothing. The entire planet was devastated. They found only a few survivors. And it was the same across the six star systems of the central cluster. Some scattered settlements living in pre-technological conditions.

The survivors were traumatized. Knowledge was lost. We learn about the Founders' War, the Scavengers, and the Ghost ships. But no one has any idea what really happened.

The Corporations Race

The mining corporations did not waste a minute. They launched expeditions to nearby star clusters and began a mad race to establish settlements and claim mining privileges. Chaos and war ensued. Karoshi Corp’s leadership prevented a full-scale war. Still, many people believe that Karoshi Corp  was behind the confrontation among the mining companies.

Ten years after the Second Wave, the Carina sector remains an unstable place.

The Central Cluster is mostly peaceful. New Boston and Amazonia are thriving settlements and the preferred destination for millions of Earth immigrants each year. The New Boston Concordat signed by the four mining companies prevents war here. The frigates of the United Earth Space Navy patrol the six systems of the cluster.

Things are different in the other five clusters. Not even the Earth Space Navy dares to enter them. It looks as a paradox, but the safest way to fly in these systems is to go unarmed.

There are many unanswered questions about the Carina Sector.

  • What happened to Greenhaven and the Founders?
  • Who are the scavengers and where they come from?
  • Were the Ghost Ships real?
  • Alvin T. Russell discovered 35 star systems, but only 34 are actually know. Where is the missing system?

What happens in Utopia stays in Utopia

Located in the Pax System, Utopia is one of the most exotic settlements of the human universe. It started as a logistic station built at the beginning of the Second Wave to coordinate the colonization of the sector. But it was abandoned once it became clear that the ecology of Greenhaven was damaged beyond any hope of recovery. It was bought by an unknown investor and transformed into a recreational place.
