A downloadable game for Windows

Rook N Rollers Chess Club is a  friendly chess game that won't crush you, unless you ask for it.

In Rook N Rollers Chess Club you will find opponents (NPC) of all levels, from beginners (1200 elo) to masters (2300). You can play training games, but the real fun is in the tournaments. If you want to feel the thrill of real chess, enter a Swiss tournament with over a hundred players. Kira, the club's referee, can organize round-robin tournaments, Swiss tournaments, and exotic King of the Hill tournaments.  Tournaments are the heart of this chess club.

This is a single player game. There are already many online servers to play chess against other players from around the world. In this game you will only face club NPCs, and in larger tournaments, more NPC of random skill level generated to fill all the tournament spots.

I've tried to adjust the behavior of the NPCs to make them behave a bit more like humans. NPCs below 1800 can make blunders, huge blunders. Something I have seen very often in blitz games in chess clubs around the world. Real players sometimes lose the queen in the most foolish ways.

Your opponents are going to make big mistakes, and you are going to make big mistakes. As in all chess clubs around the world, there is no option to take back the move here.

Rook N Rollers Chess Club uses Arasan, by Jon Dart, as chess engine.  It's an amazing chess engine, give it a try.

How to play:

To move a piece, click on it with the left mouse button and drag it to the square where you want to place it. If you do not want to move the piece, drop it on the square from which it came or on any square to which it cannot be moved.

To castle, move the king two squares in the direction of the rook. Remember that you cannot castle if you are being checked, or if you have previously moved the king or rook, or if any of the squares the king must pass through are threatened by an enemy piece.

To capture en-passant, move the pawn to your pawn's final square. Remember that you can only capture en-passant on the turn after the opponent's pawn moves from its second to its fourth rank and passes next to your pawn on the fifth rank. For more information, google en-passant ;-)

Disclaimer

This is a chess game with no grand ambitions. I built it to kill time during long hotel nights on endless work trips. I hope you have fun playing it.

Mhh no matter which time option I select, it's always 5 minutes?

Look for the time slider in Tournaments and games against the coach.

Against the coach it seems to work, but in the tournament whatever I put in the slider it ends up being 5 minutes, too bad!

Thanks! I'll check it as soon as possible.

Looks cute!
